Millennia ago, the world was a landscape of magic and warring kingdoms, shared by humans and fantastic races now remembered only in legendary tales. Dragons, elves, and beasts of myth dominated the realm, yet all lived caught in the crossfire of an eternal conflict between the order of Heaven and the chaos of Hell.

A soldier, whom we will call Sin, returned from a campaign with a rusted, jeweled crown. Within the center gem lived a Djinn. It offered three wishes governed by three iron laws: every wish had to be spoken literally, every wish carried a cost, and no wish could ever be reversed.

Sin tested the power first.

“I wish for a loyal wife and children who will excel in life.”

The Djinn granted the wish. Sin soon married a woman who mastered many sciences and arcane studies. Together they had children who grew into leaders and warriors. For years, Sin kept the gem on a chain around his neck, the silent architect of his family’s rise.

Paranoia eventually ruined the peace. The reigning King, fearing Sin’s influence, sent the soldier and his eldest sons into an unwinnable battle. To save them, Sin made his second wish:

“I wish for myself, my wife, and my children to be granted immortality and powers greater than any being this world has ever seen.”

With their new strength, Sin and his children executed the King in his own court. They began a campaign of global conquest, crushing every kingdom in their path—human and mythic alike. Sin grew reckless and tyrannical, while his followers and armies began to shift, growing appendages and abilities beyond the image of humanity.

It was during these years of conquest that Sin’s wife took the gem to study it. The Djinn appeared to her and offered her own wishes. She struck her first bargain:

“For my first wish you shall grant, I wish for a book that will hold all knowledge that only I may read. Past, present, and future.”

The book appeared, but as she read, her heart broke. She discovered that Sin’s second wish had provided the tether the Pit required. Because they were now immortal and powerful, each of her children was now bound to a Devil from Hell. The cost was their souls, and she could not reverse it.

Misguided by the Djinn, Sin prepared for his final strike. Knowing what his last wish would be, his wife prepared to counter it. Sin held the gem high and spoke:

“I wish for me, my family, and our kingdoms to become so powerful that the Heavens itself would be fearful of us!”

The wish amplified their strength, but it stripped away their masks. The Sin attached to each child manifested as a physical Devil and consumed them whole. Sin’s own soul was extinguished as the Djinn, finally free, cursed him. Sin was transformed into a nameless, memoryless Djinn, forever bound to the gem. This was the Djinn’s true intent—to trick Sin into becoming the new tenant of the jewel.

As Sin vanished into the gem, the wife looked to her book and realized the future she had read was no longer true. The act of knowing the future and Sin's final choice had changed the outcome, making the book’s warnings a cruel taunt.

She was left with two wishes and a world in ruins. She knew the cost of the Djinn’s power now; she understood that as soon as her final wish was granted, her name and memory would vanish from the minds of every living being. She stood alone, the last who remembered the world as it was.

“I wish for Heaven’s light to shine on Earth every day,” she spoke.

Sunlight became a holy brand, burning the Devils back into the depths.

For her final wish, she cried out,

“I wish for all humans to be taken away to some place safe, away from threat.”

The Djinn reluctantly granted the wish. All humans and part-humans were torn from that world and placed on another Earth. Once the humans touched the soil of their new home, the wife vanished, becoming a nameless Djinn forever bound to the Book of Answers. Her identity was stripped away, forgotten by the very people and world she had saved.

Humanity restarted on this new Earth. They were no longer one people, but were eventually divided into five types:

• BeastKind: Hybrids with animal traits and appearances.
• MagicKind: Those with the ability to sense and control magic and mana.
• MutantKind: The descendants of Sin’s original, warped armies.
• DemiKind: Humans crossed with creatures not native to this world.
• HumanKind: The purest form, and perhaps the most cunning.

The myths were forgotten, and the names of those who started it were lost to time. In this new world, it was HumanKind that the others learned to fear.
